"Whenever you rise, that's not where you fail, but if you don't rise, that is a failure" Komal Seth, Founder of LINKIN Reps

Having entered the male-dominated travel industry 17 years ago as the youngest woman entrepreneur, Ms. Komal Seth, a Delhi-based entrepreneur & philanthropist, is not only a pioneer but has established herself as a PR Mogul, becoming one of the youngest self-started women entrepreneurs in the industry through her own brand- LINKIN Reps, a travel representation & PR Company. She is also a health and wellness fanatic and truly a thought leader, representing some of the leading brands in travel & aviation.

A Self-made professional, Ms Seth is driven by strong ethics, unlike many of her peers, she works, acts & makes decisions from the heart. Ms. Seth believes that women empowerment begins from home and her commitment towards making life better & driven for women can be gauged from the fact that 90% of her team, at any time, comprises of women workforce.

When COVID forced many companies to compromise with salaries or staff strength, Ms. Seth continued to employ her team while all the clients went into a yearlong, 'no-pay' understanding. As a leader, she decided to shield her ecosystem of women she supports by continuing to support them. As a conscious decision that was much criticized by her industry friends, not a single team member was laid off and with no work; Ms. Seth encouraged all her staff to learn a new hobby (the hobby progress was monitored by her every week) while they continued receiving salary.

A firm believer of holistic living and naturopathy, her office is a green office made with recycled items and lots of greenery. It’s like an oasis in the heart of Delhi that has been widely covered & applauded for its green canopies & visiting birds. As a philanthropist, she has been advocating menstrual hygiene to underprivileged women in slums by distributing sanitary pads every month. She also supports girl child education and has been helping women understand finance.

We are happy to feature the extraordinary story of this extraordinary woman on this International Women’s day. Committed to following her heart and tread ahead with compassion, Ms. Komal’s story would inspire many others to take a step towards helping and empowering others.

FailWise: When was your eureka moment when you thought of becoming an entrepreneur?

Komal: I remember this day very nearly. I was working on an important project and got challenged and demeaned for my work. However, somewhere I knew that I had done something spectacular, and at that particular moment, I decided that I will work for myself and make it a happy journey. I count it as an unforgettable day for me; if that didn't happen, I would not have been the person I am today.

FailWise: What were your fears and challenges while starting your own brand LINKIN Reps (family or professional challenges), and how did you conquer them?

Komal: There were many hurdles. But limitations could not put a full stop in the journey, from extending our bank limits to trusting my gut for the moral decision. All of these were part of the climbing-up process. My young age and being a female sometimes worked against the traditional protocol of white hair boss or a potbelly leader. Besides this, when I started the company, I was the youngest woman entrepreneur in the industry. The gripping story here is my first five bank loans which I had applied to start the business, were rejected, and finally, I got breakthrough personal contacts. I feel that the greatest glory lies not in winning but rising every time you fall.

FailWise: What is the best lesson you have learned from your journey? And what advice would you like to give to someone (especially women) just starting out their entrepreneurial journey?

Komal: The best lesson that I have learned so far is, "Whenever you rise, that's not where you fail, but if you don't rise, that is a failure."

One piece of advice that I would like to give other women entrepreneurs would be no matter how gracefully you wear all hats; you need to dress smart and look happy because that's one thing that will help you in uplifting your mood, and you will never find an excuse to feel the under-confident person. Feel healthy, look gorgeous and stay motivated.

FailWise: Tell us about those attempts that were not successful, but you learned a lot from them (maybe more than one). In simple words, "what not to do"!

Komal: Believe in yourself and never give up.

FailWise: What are those motivational words that resonate within you when you feel low or distracted? Your mantra to empower yourself and that you want to tell any girl and woman in the world. (if you have your quotes, please share).

Komal: My biggest motivation for every day is my mother and a healthy lifestyle that helps me maintain myself. She has enchanting vibes, which makes me keep pushing, no matter how challenging the situation is. Quotes which I would like to put in here would be " there are miles to go before I sleep".

FailWise: Did you face any gender-associated obstacles?

Komal: No, I think being in a metropolitan city, and with wise and intelligent men around us, I never faced gender inequality. However, I have been listening to some harsh remarks that hit me emotionally, but I have never let anyone feel about it.

FailWise: Any message that you want to give on Women's day.

Komal: We are not meant to sit at home. Instead, step out, do something nice to the world. There is a whole world waiting to see your magic.

FailWise: Where can we find you on the internet?
